The story of a rose....

saturday night we had a date.

which honestly, in a perfect world, should happen more often. however, we treasure our weekends as a family as Michael is quite busy during the work week so we tend to spend our time together as those are the days Michael gets the maximum quality time with trey.

michael clipped this rose bud from our garden for me.

and i wish i could say it was delivered without a hitch, drama free, and that it was the most romantic thing ever.

however, with a 2 year old, trying to get ready for a date, a sitter, dinner and trying to being romantic all in a matter of 30minutes...well this is how it went down....

i thought michael was in the kitchen tending to trey and dinner. i'm at the computer googling directions to our date, the doorbell rings and i'm yelling(i'm italian we yell, its not a trait i admire about myself) to michael to please go answer the door.
It keeps ringing.

and ringing...

and ringing...

by this point i'm slightly annoyed

and then michael bust through the door with the rose in hand and says, "I was trying to surprise you".....with a frustrated voice.

And i'm still annoyed because all that time trey was in the kitchen eating alone.

The rose sat on the counter.

when we got home, michael noticed it was in the vase. he asked, "did you put the rose in the vase" and i answered "no, grace must have done it".

it looked so sweet, simple and lovely sitting alone in that vase. one would have never guessed that its road to get there was much less "sweet" and "simple".....

we both started laughing at the whole thing, he took it out and handed it to me and said, "well, its the thought that counts , right?" and i said "your damn straight it is"......

Now when i pass this sweet, simple gesture of a beautiful pink rose in the mornings, i'm reminded that married life, with children, is hard, and that it truly truly truly is the very littlest of things that keeps your love for each other alive.

I hope we pass this on to our own children through our actions to one another.
